The legendary astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the famous astronaut from the Apollo 11 mission, who was the second man to ever walk on the moon after Neil Armstrong, met with Yonatan Weintraub - Co-founder and CEO of engineering and science at SpaceIL at the begining of MayBuzz is also known for being the inspiration for the character "Buzz Lightyear" in the popular animated Pixar movie "Toy Story
The members of the Day center for the elderly in Lod, took a break from their everyday activities to hear a lecture given by our very own volunteer Nurit, about SpaceIL and the journy of the first Israeli spacecraft.
They were pleased to hear Israel is located in such a high place on the race to the moon, and were happy that they have been given a new topic to talk with their grandchildren about.
Finally, they asked Nurit to come back and update them when the spacecraft lands on the moon.
April 29, 2013 - by The "Celebrate Israel" festival

The "Celebrate Israel" festival took place in Los Angeles on April 21th, in order to celebrate Israel's Independence Day at the local Jewish community. Especially for this event, we built a special prototype of the SpaceIL spacecraft, which can fit inside a suitcase in pieces, in order to make the trip there.
The final result: a spectacular exhibit at the festival!

April 24, 2013 - by "Yuri Gagarin" day
April 12th was "Yuri Gagarin" day. At that date, 51 years ago, Major Gagarin pressed the gas pedal and became the first person to leave Earth and fly into space. In honor of Yuri Gagarin Day, conferences were held in 355 places around the world, as well as in "Hayarkon" Park in Tel Aviv.

Sandy Heffetz-Millard, a volunteer engineer in our engineering team, represented us at a NASA conference about space components in the "2013 SEE Symposium and MAPLD Combined" conference in San Diego. The participants learned about space radiation and how it affects space electronics. In addition, we presented the challenges in building a video system in accordance with the Google Lunar X-prize competition rules.

Avi Barlia, a volunteer in our Engineering team, was SpaceIL's representative at the annual Team Summit of "The Google Lunar X-Prize" competition: the modern race to the moon. During this conference in Chile, Avi represented our team's progress in the process. See you all again next year!
