Team Phoenicia is proud to announce that Hexcel is joining up as a sponsor in our efforts to pursue the Google Lunar X Prize. Hexcel has over 40 years of experience in working with carbon fiber. Hexcel's Hextow carbon fiber will significantly help the team improve its already outstanding carbon fiber composites. Team Phoenicia has been working with carbon composites for well over a year and as a result have already produced CryoCarb(tm), a very strong cryogenic and corrosive compatible carbon composite. Cryocarb has been tested between the extremes of -185 C to 300 C through multiple thermal cycles without delamination, even while under stress. CryoCarb has also been tested with LOX and HTP degradation of the material. The original intent for CroCarb was for LOX tanks for its lander for the Google Lunar X Prize. With Hexcel's help, Team Phoenicia will further improve CryoCarb and further developments of other carbon fiber based composites.
