In-Situ Resources Utilisation (ISRU) represents one of the most interesting steps for enabling human long term missions and an attractive technical and commercial challenge for current space exploration community. Moreover, Moon is rich of several materials among which Iron, Nickel, Gold, and Platinum group metals from impacted meteorites, Aluminium, Titanium, Silicium, Oxygen, Helium3 and other volatiles, Iced-Water (?), etc.
Three new videos have been loaded on the official Youtube channel of the Team Italia.
The video concerns LadyFly which have been presented previously.
Prof. Rovetta, from Politecnico di Milano, performs a very interesting presentation concerning comunication, structure and solar cell installed on Ladyfly.
Enjoy.
Due to renewed interest in exploring our space neighbor, high precision navigation systems and global autonomous communication systems are becoming very important. Many navigation systems using different technologies are currently under development. In particular, optical navigation systems are promising, but their limits depend on light conditions and knowledge of the surface.
Ladyfly is one of the many robotic mobility technologies being developed at Politecnico di Milano and possibly a secondary payload of the Amalia rover
MUL2 group that participates to the Google Lunar X PRIZE with the TEAM ITALIA is organizing the next ECCOMAS Thematic Conference on Smart Structures and Materials SMART2013. The ECCOMAS SMART 2013 is the sixth in a series which started in 2001 and has progressed successfully over the years. Past conference venues were located in Portugal, Poland and Germany. It will held in Italy at the Politecnico di Torino, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering June 24 – 26, 2013. The main topics of the conference will be related to the following areas :
Team Italia actively participated to the European Lunar Symposium held in Berlin on 19th and 20th April 2012. Prof. M. Lavagna, from Politecnico di Milano, gave a presentation of the AMALIA mission profile, together with the state-of-the-art of the overall project.
Two new videos have been loaded on the YouTube chanel of the Talia.
