"That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" was the famous line that Neil Armstrong uttered in his helmet radio system while stepping off Lunar Module Eagle’s ladder, forty-three years ago. Thales Alenia Space-Italia, member of Team Italia, is fully aware that even a small step requires a good leg, especially if it happens on the Moon surface: this is the reason why a full-scale demonstrator of AMALIA Lander deployable landing leg has been carefully built and it is now ready for testing.
The ASSET-AeroSpace System Engineering Team, one the components of Politecnico di Torino attending to Team Italia had a peculiar engagement on successful maiden flight of new advance launcher VEGA, on 13th February 2012. One of the university cubesat lauched by VEGA, in fact, is E-ST@R (Educational – SaTellite @ Politecnico di toRino), conceived, designed, integrated by a number of AeroSpace Degree Courses for more than 3 years under ASSET support and coordination.
TSD team involved in Digital Video Systems (DVS) flew to the polar base of Esrange (Sweden) to participate to the MASER 12 Sounding Rocket campaign. As usual for Maser TSD is responsible for the on board video service module dedicated to the real time acquisition, compression, storage and transmission of scientific images from a number of experimental payloads. For the specific Maser 12 mission TSD has provided the following units:
