Synergy Space Facilitates Participatory Exploration
We introduced our concept for MDOCS, our Mission Development & Operations Control System, in previous blogs. MDOCS helps with both mission development and mission operations. The operations portion of the system provides multiple outputs from mission sensory and telemetry data for varying mission control stations and exploration science
data clients. MDOCS will also feed directly into our outreach and participatory exploration system, Synergy Space.
Synergy Space will facilitate the participation of professional and citizen scientist, researchers, students and hobbyists in our GLXP mission and later in other space exploration
missions and expeditions. Synergy Space will be an online space exploration communications and data processing center using virtual world technologies to provide multidimensional virtual reality simulations, data mining algorithms, image processing and enhancement systems, and customized presentation and analysis options that makes space exploration data both entertaining and useful for scientist, researchers, artists, engineers, students and the general public.
Synergy Space will provide a resource for teachers and educational institutions for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) educational programs, increasing the number of students interested in careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Synergy Space will also provide custom designed and built nanosat and microsat space probes and manage launch and operations services for educational institutions and groups that wish to send their own hardware into space.
Currently there are terabytes of archived data from exploration missions and expeditions, Synergy Space will provide a platform to facilitate access to this data by
scientist and others interested in using this data as part of their research, like citizen scientist, students and hobbyist. This resource also makes that same level of participation available for current and future space missions. Unlike the existing data warehouses, Synergy Space will process the data for multidisciplinary research groups with presentation in customized formats.
Synergy Space will be accessible via smart phones and tablets, personal computers and specialized virtual reality interfaces. Synergy Space virtual simulations will provide users with not just the data, but the experience of exploring outer space.
