We are happy to join the competition! Hello everybody from the first Russian team participating in Google Lunar X Prize! Obviously our team name is derived from Lunokhod – the famous Soviet space project. In 1970 and 1973 Lunokhod-1 and Lunokhod-2 respectively were delivered to the Moon. They became the first remote-controlled rovers had ever travelled on the moon surface in history of mankind. Thinking about this achievement we understand what we need to aim for. We hope our Selenokhod rover will open era of next generation moon rovers - small, smart, profitable and available for the public. We plan to develop new technologies and purchase commercially available Russian space hardware which reliability was proved during the Space Era started in the XX century. Our initial work was started as far back as in October, 2007 but it was more difficult to create a real team able to join the New Moon Race as we previously thought. Nevertheless all this time the work was underway. Now the Selenokhod team comprises of nearly ten experienced engineers and managers. In later posts we will introduce all of them as well as our partners and provide public with more detailed information about Selenokhod moon mission.
