The 1000 Dollar Chemistry Competition
Dear chemists, chemistry students or pyrotechnists around the world!
Markus from Team Selene has discovered a while ago that hexamine can not be oxidized with alkaline earth metal nitrates or alkaline metal nitrates but it is indeed possible with AgNO3:
We are searching now for an additive, which makes the oxidation of hexamine with KNO3 possible and can then be used as an experimental rocket propellant. The requirements are:
▪ The oxidation of hexamine, KNO3 and the unknown additive must be as vigorous as the oxidation of hexamine and AgNO3.
▪ The mixture must contain 7 mass fractions of KNO3 (purity 90% or higher), 1 mass fraction of hexamine (purity 90% or higher) and not more than 1/10 mass fraction of the unknown additive.
▪ The additive can be a mixture of different substances but must be solid, non explosive, cheap (not more than 10USD/per kg) and containing only common available chemicals.
Please post the video link (YouTube) of your successful experiment and the full chemical name of your additive or additive mixture via DISQUS below and send video link and additive name also to
. We will verify the experiment. The first person who succeeds will win 1000USD. The video and name of the winner will be featured at the GLXP site and at our home page.
The competition ends on August 19, 2011, 12AM UTC+8.

Experiment safe, thanks and good luck!
