Lunar Lander Prototype Under Construction

From The Omega Envoy Project
Omega Envoy’s Lunar Lander is becoming a reality as we have begun manufacturing our vehicle. OE team members at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) have been machining Lunar Lander structural components to create prototype vehicles which will be used for flight testing in preparation for a planned robotic mission to the Moon in the near future.

The manufacturing of the Lunar Lander has been headed by the OE’s Spacecraft Development Lead Engineer, Dillon Sances (left), and Steve Murphy (right). The photo shows the team members holding the Lunar Lander’s base plate just after being machined on a CNC Mill at ERAU. Dillon, a graduate engineering student at ERAU, plans to develop test models of the vehicle which he designed through a rapid prototyping process. Steve is an ERAU undergraduate engineering student whom has been assisting in the design of the Lunar Lander and developing a TLI stage to put OE’s lunar lander in orbit around the moon before touchdown. The team plans to perform a series of tests with and without an onboard propulsion system in the near future using the Lunar Lander prototype model. Commercial space exploration is a new era, requiring fresh new thinking. Omega Envoy is truly demonstrating the capabilities of student engineers, coupled with a passion to achieve something great.
