The importance of Skills Developed through Robotics Programs
This presentation will focus on drawing the connections between and the importance of material learned in youth robotics programs, as it relates to building real hardware and software headed to the Moon as part of the Google Lunar X PRIZE. This topic will be presented by discussing; how presenter Blaze Sanders got started in robotics, the opportunities available for students to join the JURBAN Google Lunar X PRIZE team, and the technical details of the Moon landing system envision by the team. REAL space rated rocket engines, prototyping electronics, and 3D printed robot parts will engage the students with hands-on elements that will leave a lasting impression.

Presenters Bio
Blaze Sanders grew up in the small country town of Mc Graw, New York. He attended and graduated from Homer Central High School, where he received varsity letters in Wrestling (4 yrs), Football (2 yrs), & Track and Field (2 yrs). After which he worked for a year and a half in construction before earning an A.S. degree in Engineering Science at Tompkins-Cortland Community College, where he worked as a security guard and certified tutor in math, science, and computer science with a 3.925 GPA. He is currently in the MS/BS program in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, focusing on embedded systems.
He is the oldest child of seven, who has dreamed of being an astronaut since the age of five. That goal is still going strong; with past internship positions at NASA's Johnson Space Center and Marshall Space Flight Center, in astronaut human factors and robotics respectively. He was a NASA civil servant at Marshall Space Flight Center and is now the CEO of Solar System Express, a new space company he started August 2010 to enable space settlement, and increase human capability on Earth.
Blaze is SCUBA certified, working on his Class A skydiving license (AFF level 2, as of now), a rock climbing enthusiasts, and plans on obtaining his private pilots license & Electron Beam welding certification. Someone has to be the first person to set foot on another planet. On to Mars!
