Mission: Team FREDNET is demonstrating that Open Source development is a viable way to solve complex real world problems. Team FREDNET Mission teams are based upon the efforts of volunteers from all over the world. We employ web 2.0 technologies to support a collaborative development environment where discipline experts address technically challenging mission objectives. Our principle mission is to land on the Moon and return HD images and video of the lunar surface by December 2012. This mission is, however, just a first step in the demonstration of the successful integration of open source technologies. We intend to develop the means and methods through a continued multinational collaborative effort to use the resources of solar system to reduce the load on our fragile Earth-bound environment.
Position Description: The Community Manager will support and assist with the use and management of the web 2.0 tools to leverage the Team FREDNET community and keep mission projects running at their best. The community manager will work with existing community members collecting recommendation for infrastructure improvements, with new community members in joining on-going efforts, and in growing missions awareness though an innovative outreach program focused on brand definition and on-going promotions. Community management positions are volunteer positions for which you can contribute as much as you are willing and able. We expect to build a Community Management Team based upon the interest in this position. Because the community management function is vital to the strength and health of our community, we will require an agreed upon commitment for the time you are willing to contribute.
Summary of essential functions of Community Management:
| | Organize, implement, and monitor a "new members" orientation program. |
| | Work with mission leads to monitor and maintain a well organized project wiki throughout the mission team. |
| | Review and analyze activity within the community forums and wiki. |
| | Monitor and increase team membership retention rates. |
| | Plan and implement outreach campaigns to recruit new members through services such as Facebook and Twitter. |
| | Envision and implement a viral marketing programing using existing social networking services. |
| | Assist with the management and content of videos for our team channel on Youtube. |
| | Assist with the management and content of posting for the FREDNET blog. |
| | Assist with the development of marketing material for increased community awareness. |
| | Experience with web 2.0 technologies such as forums, wikis, blogs, and vlogs. |
| | Experience with social networking services such as Facebook and Twitter is a plus. |
| | Enthusiasm in joining a new, exploratory and experimental project. |
| | A believer in Open Innovations and Open-Source methodologies. |
| | A space geek with a propensity for turning dreams into reality. |
