High Altitude Balloon NS1b Report
Here you have this amazing report about this lighting launch.
We got two ballons of 800 grams payload but our payload was 2 kilograms. There was a first attempt and because the wind was strong it went jumping until a lighting occurs and all the experiments shutdown except for the Main CPU and the GPS. We have got tracking all the time. We recovered 500 meters away from the launch point. The preparation was very funny as you can see in the YouTube video:
So we restarted the CPU and we engaged another balloon so this time the buoyancy was enought to reach this poor altitude of 28,740 meters (94,300 ft). Here you have few night pictures when it was launched. Very soon we saw the night Moon!
Of course only one balloon got burst but the other remained so the descent was very slow. This is the balloon that you saw in the previous post. In fact, so slow that the recovery team exhausted the fuel and then decided to leave the balloon and refuel. The radio-beacon that is a HTC mobile phone running ANDROID, reported the landing coordinates. We have got both, tracking and radio-beacon sms report for positioning the balloon. Secondary camera has got very bad pictures and many errors in the compression but the night camera that Alejandro mounted was perfect. See some examples. Thanks to Alejandro Sanchez who uploaded every night video here http://www.asaaf.org/~alex/globo/

You know that next launch is scheduled in November in the night. Next time we will go to the space and beyond, every time closer to the Moon as you can see in this night picture.
Stay tuned for more...
