First Blog Post from Barcelona Moon Team

Welcome to the Barcelona Moon Team blog. We are the first Spain-based team to enter the GLXP and our team comprises several Spanish private companies, technological centres, space professionals and scientists. We want to promote collaboration within aerospace industry, academia and the whole of the society. The GLXP is an amazing opportunity for the Spanish aerospace industry and we believe it will boost the private companies to undertake challenges and risks in research and development in our country. Five years ago, after the initial steps of the Galactic Suite Spaceresort project, the first space hotel, we had to go abroad both to look for the necessary investment and the technology to build it: the project was too complex for the Spanish aerospace industry. Today our team enters the GLXP to accomplish the Google Lunar X-Prize goals, which will help developing telecommunications, automation and miniaturization of electromechanical devices, robust software and the management of complex projects. Furthermore the team plans to include a scientific payload to be developed by scientists at the Technical University of Catalonia if appropriate funding is achieved. The team also takes seriously issues of sustainability and planetary protection, and these inform our approach for overall efficiency in the concept of the mission design. We firmly believe in the capabilities of our industry and academia to bring this challenge forward, and we’ll pursue the support of the whole of the society and private companies to do it! -Xavier Claramunt
