Omega Envoy To Test X PRIZE Rover In Simulated Mars Mission On Devon Island

Today marks a very important day for Lunar exploration. This afternoon NASA will be launching the LRO/LCROSS mission to map and study the moon in more detail than ever before, a truly remarkable step in returning to the moon. The Omega Envoy Project is making some very critical progress of their own as well. Today we are announcing an expedition in collaboration with 4Frontiers Corporation and the National Space Society to the Mars Socitey's Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station (FMARS) on Devon Island. In one of the only environments on Earth resembling that of the Moon or Mars the Omega Envoy Project will demonstrate some key capabilities for their Lunar Rover. The rover, which will be taken to FMARS on a month long research expedition during July of 2009, will be completely controlled and monitored from Omega Envoy Headquarters in Orlando, Fl.

In addition to testing the rover communication and control capabilities for the GLXP mission Omega Envoy will also aid in the research expedition by employing the rover as a "scout" for the research team to enhance the capabilities of a human Lunar or Mars mission.
