Out with the old (cough…Leo…cough) and in with the new. It’s time for the Nathan Wong show, well actually more like the Nathan Wong show presented, directed, edited, and insulted by Leo Camacho. As Leo stated in my brief introduction I just finished up a year in France at the International Space University trying to round out my technical space background.

My task while I am here is to work on some of the technical and operations aspects of the Google Lunar X PRIZE, as well as write about some of those topics from the perspective of a young professional in the space industry. I LOVE talking about space. You can ask any of my non-space friends back home; I will talk their ears off in the “lounge” about space topics, trying to excite a passion I think is in everyone for space, exploration, and science.

Hi all, and welcome to our first Lunar Roundup!

With 25 teams all ramping up the action, there’s a lot of fun news that comes along...so, right here, I’m going to be rounding up the 5 best items of the week, every week!

A little about me---I ran my own blog on moon colonization (Luna C/I) for three years, before catching on with NASA’s MyMoon. I’ve covered the competition a ton, and I’m pumped to be able to help you all follow the 'what’s-what' of the prize!

The Google Lunar X PRIZE is quite literally history in the making...if you want to be along for the ride, check back every week to see what’s going down! :)

This week, we’ve had Beer’s Law, an agreement with China, and STELLAR updates!:

There comes a time in everyone's career when they no longer count as "the rookie" and for me that day has finally come. Yes, it's taken me 9 months but at long last we have fresh fish in the pond and it is my absolute honor to introduce them to you.

First up to the plate is Nathan Wong.

Recently, space has reignited the imaginations of the general public by emerging from the laboratories and propelling itself into mainstream media. With Space X docking with the international space station and JPL's Curiosity landing on Mars, space is the place once again and it has everybody all up in a buzz. So what's next? How does all of this relate to the Google Lunar X PRIZE? Are we the next big step in commercial space? How are our teams doing? All of these are valid questions with many valid, and debatable, answers. That's why we have developed and implemented a forum, here on the Google Lunar X PRIZE website, so that you can have access to the community and the teams competing in the competition to find out more about this prize and the science behind it.

To participate in the forum all you have to do is register with our site and it's completely free. Just click on the "Create Account" link on the homepage and your off. Don't worry, we don't send spam to your email if you register. It's simply a means to monitor forum activity.

Just before the 4th of July weekend I had announced that I was was going to do a giveaway for a boat-load... er, spaceship-load of loot to one lucky person who was within the, at that time, next 1000 followers on our Facebook and Twitter. Well, I threw all the names in a digital hat, drew one, and the results are in! Congratulations to our new pal Rajiv! I saw "new" but he's actually been a long time supporter of the X PRIZE foundation as a whole and is new to our Google Lunar X PRIZE specific social media pages. I'm glad we were able to suck him into the black hole that is our stream of space news and competition updates. I hope you like it here Rajiv! There's tons of space so make yourself at home. Heh heh... I'll stop with the space pun jokes... I'm Serius.

He's quite a charming fellow who looks really good in white. I wish someone could clone this guy...

Want to win stuff? Watch this... Basically, The Google Lunar X PRIZE team Part Time Scientists have reached 100k friends on Facebook. That's quite the little get together. In honor of this (and because we want to be cool enough to sit at their table at lunch) we are hosting a little contest to see if we can boost our numbers up a bit and join the big kids club.
