Moon Roundup: The Many Elements

This week, in the Google Lunar XPRIZE…

Controlling a Moon rover with your mobile device may be in your near future.

Imagination is what leads you to the changes you want to see---and the places you want to go.

And the teams are hot on the trail of their own destination...

Here's some of the important elements from this week that are getting them (and us) all back to the Moon:

The Fire

Omega Envoy 's team members are getting serious with the rocket science, breaking out the flames:

While a member of their team talked about what they're doing right now, and why:

The Testing

While Astrobotic  tested for low gravity---on Earth:

Astrobotic's Polaris ice-mining robot on a gravity offloading device.

The Imagination

What drives people to shoot for the Moon? Moon Express ' Bob Richards talked about the importance of imagination in making one's dreams come true (even as an adult):

The Space Missions

Euroluna 's Palle Haastrup talked about their progress, and their plans for a test mission (in space) early in 2014:

The People

While the members of team Hakuto  have been hitting the streets to take their moon rovers out to the people!

If you keep an eye out, you might notice something interesting about the tailpieces of those rovers...

The tailpieces are all different! Testing different modes and concepts? Which do you think is the most interesting?

The Good Humor

Meanwhile, as all this Hakuto  outreach was going on, the team also made it to Maker Faire Tokyo 2013...:

Hakuto is named for the 'rabbit on the Moon', which can be seen in the pattern of the Maria on the Moon. Hence the ears! (And awesome robot.)

The Spark and Ideas

In doing some new interviews, SpaceIL 's Yonatran Winetraub talked about the unique features of their spacecraft, their unusual origins (involving a bar napkin), and more:

The Thrust

And last but definitely not least, Penn State Lunar Lion 's been busy firing thrusters, annotating this video of the action with a layman's-terms explanation of what they're doing:
